Hama Bead Party

I'm always trying to find something to beat the winter doldrums.
This week I decided to try my hand and hama beads (or perler beads).

My mom wanted to join along so we made a little party out of it. We made taco dip and had some Smirnoff ice and crafted for hours. I set out a few bowls of perler beads as well as some cross stitch books.

It is a pretty inexpensive craft. You can get a set of beads along with the little baseboards for about $7.

Here's my woodland ones.

And our British inspired ones.

This little flower along with Stanley is from the Cath Kidston needlepoint book. You can find most of these patterns on my Hama Bead board on Pinterest. Love the way they turned out, so bright and cheery!

What do you all like to do to beat those winter blues?

Hot Water Bottle Cover

Happy New Year everyone! (Better late than never, right?)

Here's a little project I did before Christmas that I couldn't share with you until now because it was a gift for my mom.

Here it is... a hot water bottle cover!

The white cover is just something I made up using an unloved sweater, rick rack, and a button. The flower at the bottom is attic24's flower pattern. It was so much fun to make up, I definitely want to make more of them!

Did you notice the granny blanket in the background? It's a new one in progress! I have plans to post the pattern on my blog when it is done. I'm not sure it can even be called a pattern since it ridiculously simple :)

Oh Christmas Tree!

We all had a wonderful Thanksgiving here at Hopscotch Lane! Lots of eating and relaxing.

Now that all of the pie and leftover turkey is gone it is time to jump right into Christmas.

So here it is out Dining Room Christmas Tree 2012!

This is the biggest bushiest tree we have had to date. Last year was our first time in a long time having a live tree. We loved it so much we HAD to get another one and I think this one is just as perfect as last year. Like my bedroom tree, most of the ornaments are handmade. I love handmade ornaments, in 20 years I know I will be so excited to take out each ornament and feel all warm and fuzzy inside with the memories of making them.

Here's the tree in all of it's night time glowy glory!

Thank you all for your lovely comments on the owl pattern! I am so happy you all are enjoying it! Also if you blogged about your owl please keep the links coming :) I can't tell you how happy it makes me to see all of your little owls hanging on your trees! You can also add your project on Ravelry here if you have the time.

Happy Wednesday!

Vintage fabric flower pot

My current obsession is vintage sheets and we have quite the collection going. I saw this tutorial on how to make fabric covered pots and I new I had to make one out of my favorite vintage sheet pattern. I really love the way it turned out, but if I were to make it again I would paint the pot white first and then add the fabric. The terracotta shows through the fabric a little and muddles the colors. To add a little more color I painted the tray a matching pink (you can never have too much pink!)

The little pot of hydrangeas are currently sitting on the porch steps.
